Ayodhya Illuminated with Devotion: 26 Lakh Diyas Set New World Record at Deepotsav 2025

Ayodhya: The holy city of Ayodhya once again etched its name in history as Deepotsav 2025 turned into a breathtaking confluence of devotion and illumination. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a staggering 26,17,215 earthen lamps (diyas) were lit across the ghats and streets of Ayodhya, setting a new Guinness World Record for the “Largest Display of Oil Lamps at a Single Venue.”

The spectacle transformed the city into a celestial vision, reaffirming Ayodhya’s status as the global capital of faith. The banks of the sacred Saryu River glowed in a golden aura as 2,128 Vedic priests performed a grand Saryu Aarti, infusing the atmosphere with spiritual energy. The synchronized chants of “Shri Ram, Jai Ram, Jai Jai Ram” echoed across the skyline, touching every heart present.

A Tradition that Keeps Growing

Since 2017, when the Yogi government first began the Deepotsav celebrations, the event has grown exponentially in both scale and emotion. Each year, a new milestone was achieved—but the 9th edition of Deepotsav in 2025 surpassed all previous records as Ayodhya celebrated its second grand festival after Lord Ram’s consecration in the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple.

Last year in 2024, 25,12,585 diyas were lit. This year’s record-breaking display reflected not just devotion, but the rising prosperity and unity of the people.

Massive Participation, Impeccable Execution

The Guinness World Records team personally monitored the counting of lamps using drones before officially announcing the achievement. The success of this colossal event was made possible by the collaborative effort of:

  • Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University
  • Affiliated colleges and schools
  • Teachers and thousands of students
  • Volunteers and NGOs
  • Administration, tourism, culture, and information departments
  • Saints, priests, and public representatives

As the lamps were lit one by one at the designated time, the city burst into chants of “Jai Shri Ram,” creating an unforgettable moment of collective devotion.

CM Yogi Receives Guinness Certificate

During the announcement, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath appeared visibly emotional and joyful, raising both hands in satisfaction. Tourism & Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh and Principal Secretary (Tourism & Culture) Amrit Abhijat presented the Guinness certificate to the Chief Minister, who proudly held it high to acknowledge the people of Uttar Pradesh.

Ayodhya’s Devotion Shines Brighter Each Year

The Deepotsav data over the years reflects not only the grandeur of the festival but also the growing spiritual and cultural pride of the state:

2017 – 1.71 lakh
2018 – 3.01 lakh
2019 – 4.04 lakh
2020 – 6.06 lakh
2021 – 9.41 lakh
2022 – 15.76 lakh
2023 – 22.23 lakh
2024 – 25.12 lakh
